B30 Greenbelt - BWI Airport
This route may seem to serve a limited purpose- connect BWI airport with the Metrorail system. It does this well, leaving every 40 minutes and taking about a half hour between the airport and Greenbelt station at the end of the Green Line. The stop at the airport is outside of Terminal E on the ground level. As this is an express route, it costs $2.50, $1.65 with a rail transfer.
There is more to the BWI then just the airport. Neighboring the bus stop is the last stop on Baltimore's light rail system, offering quick access to downtown Baltimore and the Inner Harbor. (Currently the light rail service is suspended as Baltimore double tracks the system; you can catch buses substituting for the light rail at the the airport) Buses that serve Howard County also stop at BWI, and offer access to Arundel Mills, the latest Maryland suburban megamall. Finally, if you like to cycle, BWI is the northern terminus for the Baltimore & Annapolis trail, going to Annapolis, Maryland's capital and the home of the U.S. Navy Academy. Unfortunately, Metrobuses can only carry two bucycles at a time.
Another way to get to BWI from DC is to take the MARC Penn line train from Union Station or New Carrollton; it costs $6.00 each way. Trains run fairly often during rush hours and about once an hour midday; no service on weekends. Amtrak serves BWI station throughout the week, but costs more then MARC.
